Residential building

This villa was built as lodgings for Dr Sommer, a curator at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. It is one of the few private houses commissioned by head of municipal planning Wilhelm Jost. The two-storey stucco building is distinguished from the other buildings of the neighbourhood by a curved hip roof and discreet Neoclassical details. The street-side façade with its loggia and Tuscan pillars makes it look like a country manor and lends it a patrician, conservative-historical character. The neo-Biedermeier-style dormers, muntin windows and shutters, meanwhile, are typical of the architecture of the first quarter of the twentieth century.
