Residential and commercial building
Leipziger Straße 3
Built:
1927/28Architect:
Otto SteinkopffThis four-and-a-half storey residential and commercial building designed by architect Otto Steinkopff stands at the end of Leipziger Straße—an ochre-coloured stucco building that dominates the architecture of Marktplatz. With its flat roof and bands of windows arranged in clear cubist shapes, it is very much in the ‘New Building’ style, and in its prominent corner position directly opposite the townhall, it acts both as a kind of echo of the much higher Ratshof tower and as a transition to the lower buildings on Leiziger Straße. Compared with similar commercial buildings, the architecture is clearly Modernist in character.
